Born in 1987 (Pitrufquén/Chili), Jan started his musical education at the age of eight.

He studied classical trumpet at The Academy of Grimbergen and at The School of Arts in Brussels.

After becoming more and more interested in Jazz music he decided to study at The Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Gino Lattuca.

Beside school, he followed various masterclasses, both abroad and inland. (e.g. Bert Joris (BE), Avishai Cohen (ISR), Scott Colley (USA), Eddie Henderson (USA), Miguel Zennon (PRI)…

Active in different projects, Jan had the opportunity to perform with great musicians, bands and institutes such as The Young Jazz Orchestra, The National Theater Of Gent (NTGENT), The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Bravo Bigband, Jazz Station Bigband, Toots Thielemans, Bob Mintzer, Pierre Bertrand, Michel Herr….

At the moment Jan is also teaching in the Brussels region. More specifically in The Academy of Schaarbeek, Sint- Lambrechts Woluwe and Sint-Agatha Berchem.

WEST (artistic leader)

“The music of Jan Van Moer is in this band specified by elements out blues, country and Gospel.

The compositions are melodically driven and the mood is relatively modest and slow. No need for complex harmonies but rather simple, modal structures.

A  trip to Western Canada gave the inspiration and motivation to start this band.”

ME & MY TRIBE (artistic leader)

“Jazz meets world music is how to describe the music of this septet. An original repertoire written by Jan Van Moer is a bright mix of sounds and influences from all over the world. Rhythms from Africa and Latin America combined with sounds of the Middle East. An unique concept definitely worth seeing.”
